Bisig: Joint Community Development Project with GTDLNHS

How did you come up with the event?
On August 22, 2021, we had a meeting with the representatives of our institutional partner General Tiburcio de Leon National High School (GTDLNHS) to present and discuss the opportunity to help the students. The program was called Brigada Eskwela 2021: Bayanihan para sa Paaralan.
Why was the event organized?
The program intends to enhance the quality of education provided to the students by organizing five activities to it, as follows:
- Gulayan sa Paaralan, which aims to enhance the knowledge of the students planting and consuming vegetables, and also to to produce vegetables for community consumption
- Community pantry, which aims to provide free healthy and nutritious food in a neighborhood,
- Mental Health Awareness, which aims to reduce stigma associated with mental illness, to promote help seeking behaviors and emotional well-being practices, and also to prevent self-destruction through individual education and outreach events.
- Home Learning Space, that aims to sharpen the student’s focus and increase their motivation to read and learn through functional learning space at home, and
- Brigada Pagbasa, enhance the skills of Filipino children who can read and improve their comprehension
Of all these activities, our institutional partner specifically needs support on the provision of vegetables and other healthy food to support the Community Pantry project, foldable study tables for the improvement of Home Learning Space of pupils, and books, reading materials and other school supplies to support the Brigada Pagabasa.
After weeks of meeting and coordination with the school, finally on October 12 we have turned over the following items:
- 296 kg vegetables (Squash, Sayote, Potatoes, Carrots, Pechay Baguio, Kamatis)
- 500 bundles colored pencils (12 pcs per bundle)
- 4000 pcs standard pencils
- 4 reams short bond paper
- assorted books
- assorted seeds
- 2 pcs seedling tray
- 50 pcs black plastic bags
- 4000 pcs plastic envelopes
- 80 liters liquid detergent
And on October 14, the 80 pcs of foldable study tables.
These donations were received by the school headed by the School Coordinator, Sir Edgar F. Carino.
The distribution of food packs and school items were executed on the week of October 13 headed by the School Principal, Sir Cesar Villareal.
He also gave us a message thru our Chapter President, Joshua Roco:
“good morning sir.. on behalf General Tiburcio de Leon National School, i would like to express my gratitude to our partner PICHE CaMaNaVa..for our long term program for Brigada Pagbasa for our beloved learner..with you around success for our learners is just around the corner. Maraming salamat sir sa inyo at sa lahat ng opisyal ng PICHE CAMANAVA… God bless sir ..Truly you and your organization is a heaven sent for us.. “
