CATALYST: Lead and Inspire beyond this Crisis

By: Aubrey Bianca Navarro

“Your beliefs become your thoughts, your thoughts become your words, your words become your actions, your habits become your values, your values become your destiny.” These powerful words were one of the many that were tackled during a special training sponsored by PIChE CAMANAVA. From the title itself, this Leadership Training was a timely ‘call back’ to the members’ calling as Chemical Engineers despite the hurdles presented by the pandemic.

Our engaging speaker, Coach JC Libiran – an inspiripreneur, author of the book “Byahe ni Juan”, preacher for The Feast at Home Bay Area, writer for FISH and Kerygma magazines, international speaker, Life Coach and many more – with his fellow brother, preacher and content creator, Clark Vinoya, spearheaded the event they have packed with insightful learnings. They were exchanging banters and stories with a member of Technical Committee, Engr. Aubrey Navarro, to ensure that each segment stays true to what is applicable to the organization as well as to keep the energy high!

He was able to share Grace LaConte’s 4 Responses to Fear, which are Fight, Face, Flight and Fear – emphasizing that we should not get hang up on problems, but instead just go through it. Another good passage he deep dived into was from Tony Robbins: “Breakthrough depends on your STATE, the STORY you tell yourself and your STRATEGY.” This instills to everyone that even micro changes (i.e., on how you are, your perspective and your habits) can eventually turn to a BIG catalyst for better things.

There was also a great activity for the participants – a 10 minute ‘they-never-knew-they-needed sharing’ with 3 members per group – talking about the following G’s:

a.      GRATITUDE: What are you grateful for?

b.      GROWTH: How are you growing this pandemic?

c.      GOAL: What is your goal before this year ends?

d.      GENEROSITY: How will you be more generous?

Before the session ended, Coach JC left the acronym L.E.A.D, pertaining to – Learn, Encourage, Adapt and Devote as a reminder on how to be an effective and efficient leader, which was greatly agreed upon by PIChE CAMANAVA’s Vice President, Engr. Elisa Arriola, ASEAN Engr. She also gave the event’s synthesis and closing remarks; she wholeheartedly thanked not just the benevolent speaker but also the very lively participants – who weren’t afraid to speak out and share their own thoughts and stories.

As universal engineers who most of the time “makes the impossible, feasible”, may all these aides-mémoires be used not just on workplaces but also in everyone’s personal lives.
