The Philippine Institute of Chemical Engineers (PIChE), in cooperation with PIChE CAMANAVA and in partnership with its Batangas, Boysen, Bukidnon, Leyte, MMW, and Ormoc Chapters, recently conducted a comprehensive webinar on Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR). The event aimed to provide an in-depth understanding of the Philippine EPR policy while introducing innovative technologies, approaches, and partnerships to assist the private sector in meeting compliance targets.

The webinar also served as a platform to inspire chemical engineers to actively engage in circular plastics economy initiatives, aligning with national and international efforts to address EPR and marine plastic litter issues.

The session featured Engr. Voltaire L. Acosta, Program Manager at the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), as the resource speaker. Engr. Acosta provided valuable insights into EPR frameworks and shared actionable strategies for fostering compliance and sustainability within the industry. The event was moderated by Engr. Sheila Flor D. Javier and Engr. Ria Caramoan, who ensured a dynamic and engaging discussion throughout the session.

Engr. Elisa Capeding-Arriola, President of PIChE CAMANAVA, opened the webinar with remarks highlighting the vital role of EPR in addressing environmental challenges and the unique contributions that chemical engineers can make toward a sustainable future. The event concluded with closing remarks from Engr. Albert A. Samuela, President of PIChE Batangas, who commended the collaborative efforts of the organizing chapters and encouraged participants to apply their learnings in their respective fields.

The webinar was attended by 78 participants, including chemical engineers, industry practitioners, and sustainability advocates. The interactive session fostered meaningful discussions and provided attendees with practical tools and knowledge to support EPR compliance and promote sustainable plastics management.

This successful initiative underscores PIChE’s commitment to advancing professional development while addressing critical environmental issues. By equipping its members with the expertise to drive sustainable practices, PIChE continues to play a pivotal role in the country’s efforts toward achieving a circular economy and a more sustainable future.
