The seminar was attended by the barangay officials street sweepers of the area. The event started with the Learning Outcomes, followed by the topic proper: chemistry of household chemicals.


Engr. Cezar de la Cruz started the discussion with commonly used plastics and their recycling codes, he also cited the importance of segregation of plastics in the implementation of Materials Recovery Facility (MRF) in the area. Also, food ingredients such as vinegar and cooking oil; household cleaning products such as bleach, muriatic acid, liquid sosa; toxicity effects; as well as first-aid measures upon ingestion, skin and eye contact were also discussed. He also mentioned the cleaning products that should not be mixed, its product, and its toxicity effects.


The seminar proceeded with green economy, starting with the global carbon dioxide levels, climate change, and its effect on countries, including the Philippines. The green economy talks about the measures and plans to decrease the energy consumption and carbon dioxide emissions, as well as its benefits in economy and environment.



Recommendations:

The barangay officials mentioned about the funded Materials Recovery Facility (MRF), however the challenge was the implementation and management. This can be turned into a sustainable project, starting with coordination, implementation, and monitoring.
